The area’s striking geologic features wildlife and plants provide a dramatic backdrop for hiking, horseback riding, mountain climbing, and mountain and road biking. Take a ride on the 13-mile scenic drive and stop by the visitor center to explore interpretive exhibits. River Mountains Loop Trail Various trailheads & access points (702) 267-4050 cityofhenderson.com The River Mountains Loop Trail is a paved multi-use trail that spans 35 miles and surrounds the River Mountains, connecting Henderson, Boulder City, Hoover Dam, and Lake Mead National Recreation Area to the rest of the Las Vegas Valley and to countless recreation and eco-adventure opportunities. The trail is separated from highway traffic and features panoramic scenic overlooks and opportunities to view an abundance of wildlife, including desert bighorn sheep, desert tortoise, roadrunner and the white-tailed antelope ground squirrel. The trail also boasts a rich cultural history, which can be experienced through various petroglyphs, arrowheads and volcanic rocks. Trails are open daily from 5am until 11 pm, or dawn to dusk if not lit.
